PHONE NUMBERS

Can I transfer my existing phone number to Easton Cable Velocity Digital Voice?
Yes, you can transfer your existing number to Easton Cable Velocity DigitalVoice. There is a $15 charge to do so. EastonOnline will provide you with the DigitalVoice Letter of Authorization that you must fill out and sign in order to have your number transferred from your current provider to Easton Cable Velocity DigitalVoice. Easton Cable Velocity will then tell you when your number will be available on your new service.

Can I replace my primary telephone line with Easton Cable Velocity Digital Voice?
Some customers may choose to make Easton Cable Velocity DigitalVoice their primary phone service. Others will keep a basic service with the phone company and use Easton Cable Velocity DigitalVoice as a low-cost way to make most of their calls. The decision is entirely up to you.

Can I keep my Easton Cable Velocity Digital Voice telephone number if I decide to cancel EastonOnline Digital Voice service?
Yes.

What is a toll-free number and why would I need one?
Having a toll-free number with your service allows someone within a specific country to be able to call you for free.

Can a person outside of the U.S. call a U.S. toll-free number for free?
No. Only calls made within the U.S. to a U.S. toll-free number are free.

Will Easton Cable Velocity Digital Voice work during a power outage?
If you have an alternate or backup power supply for your computer network and your telephone, and your broadband Internet connection remains up, then you will be able to make or receive calls with your service. However, your service may be interrupted if there is a power outage. This would be the case for your regular phone service if you use a telephone that requires external power.

Do you provide directory services?
Yes, 411 service is available.

Can I add a second phone number or a second calling plan?
Yes, you can have up to 2 lines in your home.


CALLING PLANS & PRICING

What happens when I make calls outside of my calling plan?
All calls within the Continental U.S. and Canada are included in the calling plan. All other calls are considered international and will be charged at the per-minute country rate. The rate schedule is available on the My Account section.

What are your international rates?
International rates may differ depending on your calling plan. Please contact customer service for more information.

Is it free to call other people who use Easton Cable Velocity Digital Voice?
Yes, your calls to someone who also uses EastonOnline Digital Voice are free.


INSTALLATION & SERVICE REQUIREMENTS

What equipment do I need to use Easton Cable Velocity DigitalVoice?

  1. An Easton Cable Velocity cable modem (either full service or starter service).
  2. Any telephone handset

Do I need a computer to use Easton Cable Velocity Digital Voice? You do not use a computer to make or receive calls. You will, however, need a computer with Web browser software to use the online account center. (We recommend using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher.)

Is there any software to download?
No. You do not need to download software from the Internet to use the service. A computer is not required to make or receive calls.

Do I need to install or connect the service myself?
No. An Easton Cable Velocity technician will install and connect your service in your home and then test your system to make sure that it is functioning properly. This is a significant difference between Easton Cable Velocity DigitalVoice and other services that are available. Do I need a router?
No

I already have a telephone adapter. Can I use it with Easton Cable Velocity Digital Voice?
No. At this time, you must use the telephone equipment that you were provided when you signed up for the service.

Do I use my own phone?
Yes. Plug your phone (cordless or wired) into the correct port on the back of the telephone modem. Then, simply pick up your phone and dial when you hear the dial tone.

Can I use a cordless phone?
Yes. Any standard phone will work with the service, including cordless phones.

Do I need any additional accessories or equipment to start making calls?
To use the service, you need a broadband Internet connection, a telephone modem and a telephone.

What is a MAC address and where can I find it?
A MAC address acts like a serial number; every device connected to a network must have a MAC address. It can be found on a label on the bottom of your telephone modem.

What is "broadband"?
A broadband Internet connection is a cable modem, DSL, T1, T3, LAN, WAN or any other high-speed, "always on" connection. If you have a modem in your computer that needs to dial an access number to connect to the Internet, then you do not have a broadband connection.

How do I use the features?
At the time of installation, the Easton Cable Velocity technician will explain how to use your features. The same information is available online at the My Account section.

Can I retrieve my VoiceMail messages from anywhere in the world?
Yes. You can retrieve your VoiceMail messages by calling your digital voice number, press * and when the greeting starts follow the prompts.
