Instrument and Controls Technician

Easton Utilities is currently seeking to fill the position of Instrument and Controls Technician II/III

JOB OBJECTIVE: Under minimal supervision, work on the design, installation, programming, and testing of new electrical utility installations. Support and maintain existing electrical and control-type equipment at power plants, substations, EUC facilities, and the Town of Easton. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with on-call requirements. Fully in-person, not remote.

HIRING RANGE: $36-43/hr or higher depending upon experience and qualifications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

For placement at Instrument and Controls Technician II:

Thorough knowledge of electricity, and Microsoft Office products.
Must possess good communication skills to effectively work with internal and external departmental customers.
Must have a thorough knowledge of logic functions, computer programing, such as C++, communication protocols, such as Modbus, and various software platforms like Modicon for PLCs.
Must know how to use electrical tools such as digital multimeters, power supplies, and frequency generators.
Must be able to install, troubleshoot, and repair single-phase and three-phase electrical motors, motor control circuits, lighting circuits, and other associated electrical equipment.
Must be able to read electrical schematics, prints, three-phase diagrams, wiring diagrams, and one-line diagrams.
Must be available as needed to provide technical support during electrical outages, generator startups, and weather-related emergencies.
Must know all electrical equipment rated 72.5KV and below.
Must know NESC, NETA, and NFPA codes and standards.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Four (4) years of experience in power plant and/or electric system. Associate in applied science (AAS) in electrical technology operations preferred and can be substituted year for year for the required experience.

For placement at Instrument and Controls Technician III:

In addition to the requirements for Instrument and Controls Technician II;

Civil Engineer

JOB OBJECTIVE: The Civil Engineer II is responsible for professional/technical engineering, engineering design and review, standards, inspections, GIS/CAD supervision, and project management. The Civil Engineer II will oversee the engineering functions for Easton Utilities’ projects including planning, design, contract bid and award, overseeing the construction and maintenance of structures, utility infrastructure and facilities. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Industrial Electrician

Easton Utilities is currently seeking to fill the position of Industrial Electrician. The ideal candidate will be skilled and experienced in performing electrical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting on utility systems and equipment. For placement at Industrial Electrician I:

Hiring Range: $25.80/hr. or higher depending upon experience and qualifications)

JOB OBJECTIVE: To maintain electrical equipment at Power Plants, Substations, Pump Stations, Wastewater Treatment Facilities, Wells, Solar Arrays, and other Easton Utilities Commission (EUC) facilities. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with on-call requirements. NOTE: Candidates with experience with electrical system maintenance and troubleshooting preferred.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work under general supervision on assigned tasks such as cleaning, inspecting, repairing, maintaining, and installing electrical equipment.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

In-depth understanding of the installation, testing, and calibration of electrical equipment and systems, such as motors, pumps, VFDs, circuit breakers, transformers, metering, and transducers at power plants, substations, and other Easton Utilities locations.
Knowledge to test and calibrate electrical equipment, protective relaying, metering, and transducers at the power plants and substations.
Ability to troubleshoot PLCs, and SCADA systems.
Knowledge of substation maintenance to install, calibrate, maintain, and evaluate systems and equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switches, capacitors, regulators, battery banks and other related equipment.
Experienced perform switching, grounding, and clearing of substation equipment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Degree in electrical technology, master electrical license, or at least seven years of related electrical experience.

Infrastructure Locator

Easton Utilities is currently seeking to fill the position of Infrastructure Locator (Apprentice, Level I or Level II) for the Engineering Department.

JOB OBJECTIVE: To inform members of the public, contractors, utilities, locators, and other persons or entities who would be involved in planned or emergency excavation regarding underground facility identification. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with on-call requirements.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have high school diploma or equivalent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: Driving, bending, walking long distances, digging, lifting up to 100lbs, climbing steps, and the physical use of all locating equipment. Must follow all safety procedures and wear proper PPE at all times. Must have physical ability to frequently ingress underground manholes and vaults.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

Identify and locate any underground facility prior to any planned or emergency excavation or demolition activities.
Identify and mark electric, gas, water and sewer, and communication lines per each location request.
Work with Locating Team to clear each request from the Miss Utility center to the requestor.
Work with ESRI Team to update general distribution maps and records using ESRI sketches when verified field information contradicts existing ESRI mapping data.
Participate in preparing damage reports.
Assist the Engineering Department staff with any engineering functions as requested.
Regular on-call duty required. Must reside within a 30-mile radius of Easton with a maximum of 60 minutes between the initial call and arrival on-site.

Successful applicants will be eligible for placement at the following levels based on the following experience requirements:

FOR PLACEMENT AT THE APPRENTICE LOCATOR POSITION:
Annual salary of $53,669 or higher depending upon experience and credentials.

The above job functions would be done under the instruction of the Infrastructure Locator Field Supervisor.
This is an entry level position for a non-certified infrastructure locator.
Must have basic computer skills, mechanical aptitude, good verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently.
Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
Must possess the aptitude to learn Maryland’s utility locating legislative laws and best practices.
Must possess the aptitude to learn utility and roadway construction and GIS mapping systems.

FOR PLACEMENT AT THE INFRASTRUCTURE LOCATOR I POSITION:
Annual salary of $64,402 or higher depending upon experience and credentials.

Electrical Engineer

HIRING RANGE: Annual Salary of $92,742 or higher depending upon experience and credentials

JOB OBJECTIVE: Design, coordinate and test new electrical utility installations. Support existing generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure and provide future electrical assessments. Write specifications for electrical purchases and assist in the repair of electrical facilities when needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum one (1) year experience in power plant, transmission and distribution electric system design and operation.
Successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
Good communications skills to effectively work with department employees as well as internal and external customers.

Safety Manager

Easton Utilities is currently seeking to fill the position of Safety Manager. We are looking for a candidate with strong expertise in safety and utilities who demonstrates our core values of Integrity, Commitment, and Excellence.

HIRING RANGE: Annual Salary of $121,914.00 or higher depending upon experience and credentials.

JOB OBJECTIVE: The Safety Manager serves as an ambassador and key leader responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and continuous advancement of comprehensive safety and health programs across the organization’s diverse utility operations. These include electric power distribution, substations, generation facilities, natural gas systems, water and wastewater treatment, and telecommunications systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

10+ years of experience in utility or industrial safety management (preferably in a multi-disciplined utility environment).
Strong working knowledge of OSHA standards (1910 & 1926), MOSH, EPA, DOT, NESC, NFPA 70E, ANSI, and other utility-related safety regulations.
Experience conducting training, audits, and incident investigations.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

Create, revise, and enforce comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored to each utility sector (e.g., natural gas, electric, water, wastewater, communications).
Provide direct leadership, guidance, and development to safety personnel. Foster a cohesive, knowledgeable, safety team aligned with the company’s safety goals.
Partners with HR on safety-related matters including new hire onboarding, training compliance, workers’ compensation, return-to-work programs, workplace investigations, and employee health and wellness initiatives.

Gas Operations Technician

Easton Utilities is currently seeking to fill the position of Gas Technician. GAS OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN TRAINEE

HIRING RANGE: $19.65/hr. or higher depending upon experience

JOB OBJECTIVE: Provide Easton Utilities gas customers with dependable and consistent quality service through the construction and maintenance of Easton Utilities natural gas distribution pipeline system, regulators and customer service lines. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with on-call requirements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Good verbal communication skills and ability to work well with customers, contractors, and fellow employees.
Knowledge of basic report preparation, ability to do arithmetic calculations, knowledge of computers and computer operating systems.
Ability to understand construction drawings and blueprints.
Ability to operate backhoe, mini-excavator, air compressors, and related construction equipment.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and directions.
Maintain a neat appearance.
May require the need to work more than an 8-hour day.
Must possess valid CDL Class A or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire date.

HIRING RANGE: $23.55/hr. or higher depending upon experience

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated proficiency as a Gas Tech Trainee, or equivalent experience in natural gas operations or maintenance.
Valid Operator Qualifications (OQs).
Completion of all assigned Easton Utilities OQ modules within (6) six months.
Valid Class A CDL.
Basic knowledge of natural gas distribution systems, leak detection, and monitoring devices.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, surveys, gas system maps, valve maintenance maps, leak survey maps, and blueprints.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with GIS mapping and SpryPoint preferred.
Ability to perform mathematical functions and field measurements accurately.
