Water Distribution & Wastewater Collections Operator

Easton Utilities is currently seeking a Water Distribution & Wastewater Collections Operator for the Water and Wastewater Department.

JOB OBJECTIVE: Perform operation and maintenance tasks on the water distribution system and wastewater collection system in order to provide superior quality water and wastewater services to the customer. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with on-call requirements.


  • Knowledge and experience with underground utilities or plumbing is helpful.
  • Knowledge and experience with operating heavy equipment is helpful.
  • Must have good verbal communication skills and ability to work well with the public.
  • Must currently possess or obtain the Water Distribution Certification within 18 months of employment and must obtain the Wastewater Collection Certification within 30 months of employment.
  • Must have a valid MD Class A CDL or the ability to obtain one within twelve months of hire date.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have high school diploma or equivalent


  • Job involves entering and working in permit required confined spaces, driving, operation of heavy equipment, lifting, bending, climbing and digging in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical.
  • Must have sufficient pulmonary function to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Must wear proper PPE at all times.

Assistant Operator I

JOB OBJECTIVE: To learn the duties of the Control Room Operator and assist with their duties. Those duties include monitor and operate the electric system and power plants. Handle communications and dispatching for all departments outside regular business hours. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with varying work schedule including rotating weeks of overnights and weekends.


  • Must possess the aptitude and attitude to safely learn power plant operations, electric transmission system, distribution system, computer operation, SCADA, communication equipment, and gauge boards.
  • Must possess a high level of situational awareness.
  • Must meet and maintain Easton Utilities and PJM training requirements.
  • Accurate record keeping is essential.
  • Must be able to access the top of engines and basements to record readings and inspect equipment.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Stationary Engineer License – Fifth Grade or higher
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.


  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete the Northwest Lineman College System Operator Certification Program within two years of hire date.


  • Must be able to work with exposure to extreme noise, heat, and during periods of high stress.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment into and between plants.
  • Must wear proper PPE at all times.
