Abbott to serve on the Bay Restoration Fund Advisory Committee for a four-year term. Talbot County Council Helps Fund Broadband (10/13/2022) - The Talbot County Council presented a check for $1.75 million to Easton Utilities at their meeting on Tuesday, October 11, fulfilling a promise to residents to invest in broadband access for the entire county. “This funding will remove the only remaining barrier for those needing access to broadband service as we realize affordability is crucial,” says Chuck Callahan, Talbot County Council President. The funding for this project was made available to counties and municipalities through the American Rescue Plan Act and caps a series of investments made by Talbot County to help fund the development of infrastructure for broadband access. Sun Outages May Occur in the Coming Weeks (10/4/2022) - ​It is that time of year again. Fall sun outages will begin on or around October 4th through approximately October 11th. A sun outage is an interruption in satellite signals caused by interference from solar radiation. The interference is caused when the sun is in direct line with a communication satellite and the sun’s radiation overwhelms the satellite signal. Easton Utilities Awarded $3.5 million for Rural Broadband (7/26/2022) - The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) awarded Easton Utilities $3.5 million in grant funding to extend broadband to the remaining unserved locations in Talbot County. Town of Easton & Easton Utilities Complete EV Charging Station (11/9/2020) - The Town of Easton and Easton Utilities announce the completion of four electric vehicle (EV) charging station parking spots off Brewers Lane. “We are thrilled to support and encourage green transportation alternatives in downtown Easton,” stated Kody Cario, Project Manager for the Town of Easton. Easton Utilities Awarded $13 million for Rural Broadband (7/31/2020) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today that Easton Utilities was awarded $13.1 million in grant funding to extend broadband to significant portions of Talbot County with insufficient service. “The benefits of this project will be immeasurable to Talbot County and the positive impacts will last a lifetime,” said Hugh E. The total project will cost $17.5 million and will cover 122 square miles, reaching up to 3,447 households and 144 farms, plus several additional facilities located within the geographic footprint. Landfill Gas goes GREEN! (1/3/2017) - Easton Utilities has officially commissioned a Landfill Gas to Electric Generator, which is currently utilizing methane gas and converting it to green energy. “This project is mutually beneficial for the environment, our customers, and the Town of Easton,” stated Hugh E. Grunden, president and CEO of Easton Utilities. Easton Utilities purchased a previously operated generator from the Worchester County Landfill, which created a very cost-effective solution. The expected life of the project in Easton is approximately eight to ten years, depending on the landfill’s ability to produce gas. Cable and broadcast networks drive increase in Easton Velocity cable rates (12/20/2016) - Easton Velocity cable programming packages will increase between $0.20 and $4.00 after cable networks and local broadcast affiliates have increased what they charge Easton Cable to carry their programming. “As a not-for-profit, municipal cable company, Easton Velocity does not retain any of the revenue from these increases,” said Ted L. Book, Director of Cable and Communications for Easton Velocity. “These rates are driven by the media corporations who provide the content and we pass along the increases without markup.” Cable networks and broadcast affiliates charge all cable and satellite companies, including Easton Velocity, a per-subscriber fee to carry their programming. Easton Utilities employees mark career milestones (10/24/2016) - Easton Utilities recently celebrated 10- and 20- year service milestones achieved by seven of its staff members. Geoff Diefenderfer, Journeyman Lineman, Matt George, Gas Tech IV, and Troy Jones, Operator Supervisor, reached 20-year anniversaries during the past year. Doug Abbott, Superintendent of Water and Wastewater Operations, Bryan Baynard, Meter Tech II, Jim North, Apprentice Lineman, and Scott Sears, Supervisor of Software Engineering, marked 10-year anniversaries with the company. “These dedicated individuals have talent and experience which makes them an invaluable asset to our organization and our customers,” said Hugh E. Easton Utilities enters Phase III of Sustainability Campus (10/18/2016) - To continue moving toward resource conservation and protecting the environment, Easton Utilities is pleased to announce the third phase of the Easton Sustainability Campus with the installment of a two megawatt photo voltaic solar array. Bringing over 25 years of industry experience, Mr. Horner joins Easton Utilities from Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), where he held various senior level positions.
